Nicolas Diaz
Prop Modeler
BIO
I was born in Miramar, Florida and am currently attending Florida Polytechnic University. I like to think of myself as very artistically minded, since I dabble in a lot of different artistic areas, both 2D and 3D, as well as in other forms of art: I like to draw digitally, create music, and 3d model a bit in my free time, as well as play video games to entertain myself. I also work on side projects such as a webcomic as a direct way to express my ideas. Doing all of this creative work across multiple mediums can have its drawbacks: I will not lie that in my efforts I can often find myself biting off more than I can chew, but I don’t see this as much of a draw back: I like to be ambitious about the things I create, and find the creative process of solving an initially unsolvable problem to be greatly rewarding.
CAREER SUMMARY
I plan to, when I leave college, become a video game designer, specifically a technical artist. Technical artists are a type all-purpose designer that can both program and model/animate elements for a video game. I already have experience in not only modeling and animating 3D computer generated models, but also.the pipeline involved in game design: During my time at the DAVE School – a technical college for digital vfx and video game design – we worked in an environment similar to the typical game studio environment, working and collaborating with each other on four projects over the course of three months at a time to create interesting and varied game environments, understand the basics and necessities of 3d modeling, and rigging and animating characters and objects. The programs we used were Unreal Engine 4/5, Maya, and Blender, all industry standard products.During my time here at Florida Polytechnic university, I hope to expand my range of skills to some of the major programming languages, as well further improve upon the ones I already have. I already have taken a class in learning how to program in C, and have experience in programming in a language for a passion project. The language is based on JavaScript, C++ and C#, which will hopefully allow me to successfully transfer that knowledge into those should they come up in my future studies at the university.
